Specialty Unit in Sports Injury
Chi Wellness Clinic has
developed a comprehensive program for treating sports injuries. We have treated many competitive athletes at the college and
professional levels. They include former Boston College and Celtics
player Dana Barros (point guard), track and field track athletes and hockey
players from Boston University, Boston College and Harvard University,
football players from Northeastern University, and basketball players from other
local colleges.
Recently, we began to focus on sports injuries occurring among amateur athletes and exercise
enthusiasts, from teenagers to baby boomers. Thanks to valuable
feedback from our baby boomer patients (ages 40 - 65), we have gained unique
insights into providing effective and cost-effective treatments. By
understanding sports injuries that occur during youth, but
manifest at the ages of 40 - 65, we have strengthened our long-term and holistic
treatment of physical and functional impairments, placing more weight on
patients' ability to prevent injuries.
The principle of Chi Wellness
holistic treatment program is a balance between high level performance
and sustainable enhancement of health and wellness. The objective
of treatment is to mobilize the body's healing capacity to repair soft
tissue injuries on an on-going basis. Our program consists of four
aspects:
- To detect muscular tension
(including tendons) and stiff joints from head to toe;
- To use physical manipulation
(Tuina, stretching, acupuncture) to loosen up muscles, as well as
joints, and achieve sustainable relaxation throughout the entire body.
As a result of the sustainable relaxation, the blood and chi
circulation increase and heal injuries. Herbal remedies are also
used for old injuries.
- To rehabilitate the selective
strength of weakened muscles, the muscular balance (collective strength)
of the entire body, the even weight bearing of the body, motor
coordination and balance of the body.
- To enhance sports performance
and reduce wear and tear during work outs using Chi Wellness self-care
methods including:
- Listening to tension in the
body
- Self massage
- Deep Stretching
- Conditional strengthening
- Relaxing the joints
- Tai Chi movements and mental
relaxation (meditation)
The endpoint of Chi Wellness
treatment is to enable patients to use their instinctual abilities to
prevent sports injuries and to live active, balanced and relaxing lives.
As a result, they can perform their sports consistently, powerfully and
sustainably, without suffering aches and pains later on.
