Dr. Edward King is training for London Paralympic 2012

April 1st, 2009

Our patient, Dr. Edward King, formally an orthopedic hand surgeon at Exeter Hospital, is working hard to improve his motor skills for his daily activities and sailing. Dr. King had been an avid sailor since high school and through his adult life. He had participated in ten sailing competitions between Newport, RI to Bermuda, in some of which he was the Skipper.

In 2003, Dr. King suffered two separate strokes and lost certain sensation and motor control on his left side. Since January 2009, Dr. King came to Chi NeuroHealth and Chi Wellness Clinics for acupuncture and Tuina therapy (Tensiotherapy). His regiment includes acupuncture and 1.5 hour Tuina twice per week. Dr. King has been steadily improving his motor coordination and balance, and flexibility and movement of his left limb including his arm, hand, leg and ankle. In March, he was beginning to drive a car for the first time since the stroke in 2003.

Dr. King will start sailing in the ocean in June 2009, and will participate in three sailing races in the summer. Miles Chen has been his conditioning trainer since January 2008.
